Ulrike Seyboth untersucht das Malen als einen komplexen Zusammenhang, vom seismografischen, tagebuchartigen Skizzieren flüchtiger Momente auf Reisen über große Papiere und Collagen bis hin zu großformatigen Ölmalereien auf Leinwand. Ingo Fröhlich ist Bildhauer und Zeichner. Seine Arbeiten sind zeichnerische Analysen. Sie entstehen in gestischen und rhythmischen Prozessen, sie beschreiben Bewegung, Zeit und Zwischenraum. In ihrem Kooperationsprojekt ergründen die beiden Künstler das Spannungsverhältnis von Fülle und Leere auf Leinwand, Papier und im Raum.

Oftmals sind es Studienaufenthalte und Reisen – das Atelier vagabond – die das Paar als Inspiration und Beweggrund für ein neues gemeinsames Projekt nutzt. So auch im Zusammenhang mit diesem Buch, das im Rahmen der Doppelausstellung in den Musées de Sens im französischen Burgund und der Guardini Galerie in Berlin entstanden ist. Es dokumentiert beide Ausstellungen. Mit Texten von Frizzi Krella und Robert Kudielka und einem Künstlergespräch.

Edited by Ulrike Seyboth, Ingo Fröhlich and Frizzi Krella on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Kunst- und Projekthaus Torstraße 111 in Berlin, the book illustrates how the participation of artists in the collective urban space enriches inner-city diversity, creating creative biotopes that guarantee a lively urban diversity. The documentary integration of the artist-run-space into the art historical context of the 1990s to 2020s also examines the development of artistic autonomy in Berlin. A photo and image documentation on the history of the house, interviews with participating artists* and an art historical location show how innovative approaches have been used to integrate various uses into a residential and art house.
Ingo Fröhlich founded Torstraße 111 in Berlin-Mitte in 2000. Since 2012 he has been managing the Kunst- und Projekthaus together with Ulrike Seyboth.

This singular exhibition celebrates both the poet Max-Pol Fouchet and Freedom – common good and unchanging value – as a fundamental figurehead. The exhibition brings together the works of some thirty artists (visual artists, such as painters, sculptors, draughtsmen, photographers, etc.) and writers, poets, some of whom still knew Max-Pol Fouchet. Together, they illustrate in a concrete way our commitment to all the freedoms that currently seem to be threatened by a cold recoil of populism or even fascism in our age, similar to the 1930s. Creating art also always means to resist somewhere and in some way.

The exhibition is accompanied by the catalogue Liberté FIGURE DE PROUE.
