The exhibition is dedicated to artist couples as a distinctive and multifaceted phenomenon in both art history and the present: partnerships in life and work in which artistic practice and personal relationships are closely intertwined. More than 120 works by 19 artist duos offer insight into this unique form of collaborative creation. Between intimacy and independence, dynamic fields of tension emerge in which artistic processes are continuously redefined.

Thanks to loans from the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank, the exhibition brings together historical artist couples from the past five decades with contemporary positions. While the former provide insight into established dynamics and structural conditions, current artist pairs each collaboratively shape an exhibition space of their own.
